Ensure the birds you buy are not stolen
Don’t risk losing your birds to a police seizure due to their stolen origins. In Australia, there is no statute of limitations on stolen property, meaning that birds must be returned to their rightful owner—no matter how many times they have changed hands.
Even if you have a receipt of purchase, it does not override the original ownership rights. Any offspring produced while in your possession will also be seized and returned to the rightful owner.
Do your due diligence before purchasing birds—confirm their legal status to protect yourself from potential loss.
Avian DNA Genetics

The Truth About Genetic Mutations in Birds, don’t get caught
With advancements in breeding and genetic mutations, rare mutation birds have become the ultimate prize for many avian enthusiasts. However, the industry is not without its pitfalls.
One of the most common cons is the sale of Non-Visual Genetic Mutations (“Splits”)—birds claimed to carry hidden genetic traits without any verifiable proof. This often leads buyers to pay inflated prices for birds that may not actually possess the promised genetics.
AvianPro offers a comprehensive range of DNA Genetic Mutation Testing, providing breeders and buyers with accurate, science-backed verification of a bird’s genetic traits.

“Proven Breeding Pairs” – What Every Avian Enthusiast Should Know
For every avian enthusiast, the ultimate goal is to see young chicks in the nest. However, starting with young, immature pairs requires patience before reaching breeding success. To fast-track the process, many buyers opt for mature birds or pairs with a breeding history.
Unfortunately, a common industry scam involves falsely selling so-called “Proven” Breeding Pairs—birds claimed to have successfully bred when, in reality, they have never produced offspring or may even be genetically or behaviorally incompatible.
DNA Profiling generates reputable breeders with a powerful tool to accurately document the genetic lineage of their entire flock.

DNA Profiling, stamping out bird theft
Warning for Macaw Buyers – Stolen Pair of Hyacinth Macaws – A newcomer to the bird industry recently fell victim to fraud after purchasing a pair of Hyacinth Macaws from a QLD Seller, only to have them stolen back. Fortuantely, the owner learned about AvianPro’s DNA Profiling service from the QLD CIB (criminal investigation branch) and collected feathers from the aviary floor. The samples were sent to AvianPro for DNA analysis, and the birds DNA profiles have now been registered as stolen in the National DNA Database. Thanks to this DNA profiling, it is only a matter of time before these Hyacinth Macaws and any future offspring – are identified and recovered. Remember to protect yourself when purchasing valuable birds, perform a “Buyers Protection” search with AvianPro.
STOLEN – Blue & Gold Lutino Macaw and Split – Bird theft is on the rise in Queensland, with vaulable species being targeted. A private owner recently had their newly acquired Blue & Gold Lutino and Blue & Gold Split Lutino Macaw stolen from their secluded property. DNA profiling is now providing reassurance to victims of bird theft across Australia, ensuring stolen birds can be identified and recovered through genetic tracing. In the fight against illegal bird trade, AvianPro has partnered with veterinarians nationwide, who now collect feather samples from birds matching descriptions in the National Stolen Bird Database. These samples are sent to AvianPro for genetic profiling , aiding in the identification of stolen birds and contributing to a growing database of know genetic bloodlines – an essential step in combatting bird smuggling.
“Thanks to AvianPro’s DNA Profiling service, my stolen blue & gold macaw (Roxie) was returned to me 3 months later, after being sold to an unexpecting buyer”
“Having a love for breeding Amazons, I wanted to buy my first pair of proven breeding macaws, and was prepared to pay good money for the right pair, but knowing the scams our there I did a “DNA Genetic Search” on a pair of scarlet macaws I was looking to buy. The search results came back verifying this pair had in fact produced multiple clutches”
